Our Doctors
Dr Russell Spinks
Russell is a supervisor for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), has been a Clinical Associate of Newcastle University, and involved in the education of doctors for more than 30 years.
He is interested in all aspects of general practice and family medicine, with a particular focus on musculoskeletal and sports medicine, aged care, and heart disease.
His natural love of travel and adventure was fostered when he did a locum stint with the Royal Flying Doctors Service in the Western Australian outback. He has also been involved in overseas aid work, going to Nepal and Timor on several occasions. These trips also continued his enthusiasm for photography; his photos embrace the walls of the practice with regular changes after each trip.
As the principal of the practice, Russell runs a quality family-orientated practice. As a former GP Obstetrician at Gosford Hospital, he now enjoys seeing the teenagers and the young married that he previously delivered. He also enjoys his role as the sports doctor for local and representative swimming and football teams.
Russell is available for morning appointments on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Dr Dean Cavanagh
Dean has worked at Narara Valley Medical for many years. During this time, he has developed an avid following and is very well respected in all areas of general practice.
Dean has studied further and is regarded as our skin cancer doctor, differentiating between simple solar-damaged skin, through to basal cell cancers and melanomas.
Dean’s skillful excisions are well-known as well as his recognition of excisions that need a referral for specialist skills.
For relaxation, Dean enjoys a lot of fishing, regular karate, a bit of general fitness, and a spot of international destination surfing.
Dean is available for appointments all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and available Thursday mornings.
