SUMMARY:World Braille Day
DESCRIPTION:World Braille Day\, celebrated since 2019\, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people. \nBraille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number\, and even musical\, mathematical and scientific symbols. Braille (named after its inventor in 19th century France\, Louis Braille) is used by blind and partially sighted people to read the same books and periodicals as those printed in a visual font.

SUMMARY:World Leprosy Day
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, World Leprosy Day is Sunday 28 January. World Leprosy Day always takes place on the last Sunday of January. \nThis date was chosen by French humanitarian\, Raoul Follereau as a tribute to the life of Mahatma Gandhi\, who did much work with persons affected by leprosy and died at the end of January in 1948. \nWe celebrate World Leprosy Day to raise awareness of a disease that many people think does not exist anymore. \nWhat can you share this World Leprosy Day?\nIf you want to raise awareness with us online this World Leprosy Day\, here are some key facts and details that you can share: \n\nLeprosy is curable with a combination of antibiotics known as Multi Drug Therapy (MDT). This treatment is available for free across the world. If leprosy is not treated\, it can lead to serious complications.\nLeprosy is at least 4\,000 years old\, making it one of the oldest diseases known to humanity. However\, we believe we can be the generation that finally ends the transmission of leprosy – our target is zero transmission by 2035.\nçand many millions are living with leprosy-related disabilities\, particularly across Asia\, Africa\, and South America.\nYou can donate to help treat a person with leprosy at donate.leprosymission.org

SUMMARY:World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day
DESCRIPTION:On 31 May 2021\, the World Health Assembly (WHA) recognized 30 January as World Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Day through decision WHA74(18). This decision formalized 30 January as a day to create better awareness on the devastating impact of NTDs on the poorest populations around the world. \nThe day is also an opportunity to call on everyone to support the growing momentum for the control\, elimination and eradication of these diseases. Global NTD partners had marked the celebration in January 2021 by organizing various virtual events and also by lighting up landmark monuments and buildings.
