SUMMARY:International Day of Older Persons
DESCRIPTION:Rapid growth in the number of people reaching older ages underscores the significance of promoting health\, preventing\, and treating illnesses throughout the entire course of life. \nIn societies with aging populations\, it becomes imperative to adjust to the increasing number of elderly individuals who possess a diverse range of functional capacities. The capability to carry out essential functions and partake in everyday activities is influenced not solely by an individual’s inherent capacity but also by the social and physical environments in which they reside. \nSupportive environments play a pivotal role in assisting older individuals to maintain their activity levels and independence as they progress in age.

SUMMARY:Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:People living with borderline personality disorder (BPD) often experience stigma and discrimination which remains a significant barrier to accessing appropriate care. \nThere are several evidence-based treatments for BPD\, such as Dialectical behaviour Therapy (DBT)\, Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT)\, Schema-Focused Therapy (SFT) and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP). However\, these may require many years of mastery and often have limited availability. Recently\, structured generalist approaches have been developed drawn from the core principles of ‘what works’ from these specialist therapies. They have been proven to work for people experiencing BPD. \nThe core principles of care can be easily incorporated in the practice of health professionals\, expanding access to treatment and ensuring every interaction can make a therapeutic. difference. \nBe the difference\, make a difference\, by applying the BPD core principles of care in your practice.

SUMMARY:Spina Bifida Awareness Month

Every October\, we highlight community stories that challenge us to raise more awareness and support for those living with Spina Bifida. \nAs a community\, we can do this by raising awareness about Spina Bifida either in our own circles or larger networks. SUMMARY:Odd Socks Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year GROW organises a day Australia-wide where we raise awareness of the serious issue of mental health while endeavouring to reduce the stigma surrounding mental ill-health in a cheerful forum. All of us experience odd days\, and that’s okay; the odd socks stand in for those odd days. We hope the community will join us and have a little fun along the way! \nWe encourage everyone to wear odd socks on Odd Socks Day and start a conversation about mental health because one in five Australians between the ages of 16 and 85 experience mental illness each year. We should talk openly and freely about mental health issues\, just as we would with any other physical injury or health problem. \nWhen we wear odd socks\, we as a community are helping GROW raise awareness of mental health issues\, and together\, we are also helping to stamp out the stigma around mental ill-health.

SUMMARY:World Polio Day
DESCRIPTION:World Polio Day highlights the global efforts to end poliomyelitis (polio) worldwide. Polio is a life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus\, which the World Health Assembly committed to eradicate in 1988. The WHO European Region was declared polio-free in 2002 and has sustained this status every year since then. \nEvery year on 24 October\, we observe World Polio Day to raise awareness of the importance of polio vaccination to protect every child from this devastating disease\, and to celebrate the many parents\, professionals and volunteers whose contributions make polio eradication achievable. \nTo ensure a polio-free future for everyone\, efforts must continue to maintain high immunisation coverage\, implement high-quality surveillance to detect any presence of the virus\, and prepare to respond in the event of an outbreak.
