SUMMARY:World Antimicrobial Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria\, viruses\, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines\, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread\, severe illness and death. As a result of drug resistance\, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat. \nA global action plan to tackle the growing problem of resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines was endorsed at the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2015. One of the key objectives of the plan is to improve awareness and understanding of AMR through effective communication\, education and training. \nWorld AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign that is celebrated annually to improve awareness and understanding of AMR and encourage best practices among the public\, One Health stakeholders and policymakers\, who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.

DESCRIPTION:World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness\, awareness among children worldwide\, and improving children’s welfare. \nNovember 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. \nSince 1990\, World Children’s Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children’s rights. \nMothers and fathers\, teachers\, nurses and doctors\, government leaders and civil society activists\, religious and community elders\, corporate moguls and media professionals\, as well as young people and children themselves\, can play an important part in making World Children’s Day relevant for their societies\, communities and nations. \nWorld Children’s Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate\, promote and celebrate children’s rights\, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children.
